College Football: Gophers Beat Oregon State 30-23
Mitch Leidner broke the school record for rushing touchdowns among Gopher quarterbacks.
The Minnesota Gopher football team kicked off the 2016 season with a 30-23 win over the Oregon State Beavers Thursday night.
Penalties and turnovers for both teams made for a sloppy game, but the Gophers were able to take advantage of the Beavers' mistakes and convert for touchdowns.

Gophers running back Rodney Smith rushed for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Mitch Leidner rushed for two touchdowns.
Leidner's second rushing score of the game brought his overall rushing touchdown record to 25, breaking Rickey Foggie’s school record for quarterback rushing touchdowns.

The Gophers will play their second regular season game against Indiana State at home Sept. 10.
