Early Voting In Minneapolis: What To Know For Election Day 2021
Early voting in Minneapolis starts Friday. Here's your guide to requesting a mail-in ballot or voting early in person.

MINNEAPOLIS — As of Friday, voters in Minneapolis can cast their ballots for the Nov. 2, 2021, municipal election. Among the offices on the ballot are the mayor and city council seats.
Here are all of the offices that are up for reelection in Minneapolis in 2021:
- Mayor
- City Council
- Board of Estimate and Taxation (two at-large seats)
- Minneapolis Park Board
- District seats (six seats)
- At-Large (three seats)

- Early voting period: Sept. 17 — Nov. 1
- Early registration deadline: Tuesday, Oct. 12
- Suggested deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot: Tuesday, Oct. 19
- Election Day, deadline to return mail-in ballot: Tuesday, Nov. 2.
- Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m
- Mail-in ballots can be dropped off at the Minneapolis Elections and Voter Services building
Register to vote online
Minnesota has same-day voter registration, which means you can register to vote at your polling place on Election Day. However, if you want to vote early by mail, election officials suggest registering as soon as possible online.

Vote early in-person
Minneapolis residents who want to vote early in-person can do so at the Minneapolis Elections and Voter Services building, located at 980 Hennepin Ave. E. Minneapolis, MN 55414.
- Residents do not need a reason to vote early
- Masks are required
Vote early by mail
- If you haven't requested your mail-in ballot yet but plan to vote by mail, you can do so here.
- You can check the status of your ballot — from the time you request it all the way until it's counted — on the Minnesota Secretary of State website.
- Mail-in ballots will not count if they are received after Election Day
- Minneapolis voters have the option of dropping off their mail-in ballot at the Minneapolis Elections and Voter Services building up until 3 p.m. on Election Day
