Hail, Tornadoes Possible In Minnesota Tuesday

Residents in central and southern Minnesota should be prepared for severe weather Tuesday night.

TWIN CITIES, MN — Residents in central and southern Minnesota should be prepared for severe weather Tuesday night. Storms will likely begin in the late afternoon in the Twin Cities metro.

"Large hail and tornadoes are the primary threats, but damaging winds are also possible. 1 or 2 tornadoes could be strong," the National Weather Service said. "Thunderstorms are most likely between 6pm and midnight."

Tuesday: Rain and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. High near 53. Breezy, with an east southeast wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am, then a chance of rain after 4am. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 41. East southeast wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
