The win ends Minnesota's eight-game losing streak against the Badgers.

MADISON, WI — After the school's football team reclaimed Paul Bunyan's Axe back in November, Gopher hoops decided to follow suit. The Minnesota men's basketball team defeated No. 22 Wisconsin Thursday night in Madison to open Big Ten play.
The Gophers (12-2) topped the Badgers 59 to 52. Amir Coffey put up 21 points and had 6 rebounds.
The win ends Minnesota's eight-game losing streak against their rival. Additionally, the Gophers hadn't won in Madison since 2009.
