Jacob Frey Wins 2nd Term As Minneapolis Mayor: City

Jacob Frey overcame challenges from progressives Kate Knuth and Sheila Nezhad.

MINNEAPOLIS — Jacob Frey has been reelected as mayor of Minneapolis, city election officials announced Wednesday.

Minneapolis uses ranked-choice voting. Frey won in the second round after failing the secure the necessary 50 percent of the vote in round one.

Jacob Frey overcame challenges from progressives Kate Knuth and Sheila Nezhad.

Frey won with 70,669 votes to Knuth's 55,007 votes. All other candidates were eliminated in the second round of tabulation.

United States Rep. Ilhan Omar — who represents Minneapolis — endorsed Knuth and Nezhad and told voters to not rank Frey.

Frey was opposed to the failed ballot amendment that proposed to replace the city's police department. Knuth and Nezhad both endorsed the measure.
