Mike Zimmer's Letter To Fans: 'I'm Sorry We Didn't Get It Done'
"I want to thank you for your support over these eight years," Mike Zimmer wrote in a statement to Minnesota Vikings fans.

MINNEAPOLIS — Mike Zimmer released a statement thanking Minnesota Vikings fans after he was fired Monday from his position as head coach.
Zimmer, 65, has coached the Vikings since 2014.
The club's owners — Mark and Zygi Wilf — also made the decision to move on from general manager Rick Spielman.

"I want to thank you for your support over these eight years. I've grown to love the people of Minnesota, it has become our home. You have been tremendous to my foundation and helping the kids of Minnesota. We have had great sponsors and me so many great people, inluding my relationship with Bud Grant and all of the people in the offices.
I have given my heart and soul to this organization and to the players. I have had outstanidg assistant coaches who have worked tirelessly. I'm sorry we didn't get it done.
The fans make this place truly special. On Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium, it's an unbelievable atmosphere.
I'll miss coaching the players, some who have been with my for all eight years. I want to thank the players who welcomed me in 2014 and believed in my that I could leam them to be great."
The Vikings finished the season 8-9, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Zimmer is 72-56-1 as the Vikings' head coach. He is third behind Bud Grant and Dennis Green in team wins.

Zimmer coached eight total seasons with the Vikings, which included two NFC North titles and three playoff appearances.
NFC North rival Chicago Bears also fired their head coach, Matt Naggy, Monday morning.
