Minneapolis To Residents: Keep Yards Clean During COVID-19

City inspectors will continue to respond to 311 complaints amid the COVID-19 crisis.

MINNEAPOLIS — The city of Minneapolis is asking that residents keep their yards and green spaces clean in order to keep neighborhood safe during the new coronavirus crisis.

City inspectors will respond to 311 complaints and in limited instances go through areas with vacant properties and a history of nuisance violations.

As the temperatures warm up this week, the city is encouraging property owners to:

  • Remove trash and debris.
  • Trim back vegetation overhanging the sidewalk, alley or street.
  • Mow the lawn.
  • Remove inoperable vehicles.
  • Bundle brush and branches.

Some resources exist to help older adults, veterans and disabled people.

Anyone who gets a violation letter and finds complying to be a hardship can call 311 or the number at the bottom of the letter to discuss the situation. City officials say they're committed to balancing the needs of the community, renters and owners, and being fair, reasonable and flexible.
