Minneapolis Public Schools Asks Parents To Drive Kids To School

Officials say the school bus driver shortage predates the pandemic, but COVID-19 "has only made it worse."

MINNEAPOLIS — To address the "nationwide shortage of bus drivers," Minneapolis Public Schools are asking parents to drive their kids to school this year. Officials say the shortage predates the pandemic, but COVID-19 "has only made it worse."

Parents who take their kids to school are eligible to be reimbursed $.56 per mile for mileage to and from home to school each day.

"By doing this, you’ll be freeing up some space on the bus for students who cannot provide their own transportation," the district notes.
