HR Green and Inter-fluve examined hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology and existing infrastructure at what is now Minnehaha Creek Preserve in St. Louis Park, MN. The team developed concept designs for restoring a sinuous stream channel, improving wetland and floodplain function, improving site recreation, trail connectivity and integrating stormwater management Best Management Practices. Thursday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. the Minnehaha Creek Preserve Ribbon Cutting will be celebrated.
The creek’s path is a segment along Reach 20 of Minnehaha Creek between Louisiana Avenue and Meadowbrook Road. With much commercial and industrial construction over the last 70 years, the creek became hidden away or was straightened, changing the creek to a ditch. The project design includes a new pedestrian bridge as well as over a mile of new trail and boardwalk with associated viewing areas, overlooks and trailheads.
