MN BCA Releases Report On No-Knock Warrants

Under a new state law, local police departments must report information about no-knock warrants to the state.

ST. PAUL, MN —The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has published its first no-knock search warrant report, which covers incidents from 2021.

Under a new state law, local police departments must report information about no-knock warrants to the state. The BCA then compiles the data into an annual report.

The 2021 document is the first annual report, and only contains data from Sept. 1, 2021, when the statute went into effect.

From Sept. 1 through Dec. 31, 2021:

  • Warrants requested: 132
  • Warrants issued: 129
  • Warrants denied: 3
  • Warrants executed: 105
  • Warrants where the sought evidence was located: 87
