MN Weather: 107 Heat Index Wednesday

TWIN CITIES, MN — The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch through Wednesday night that includes all of the Twin Cities metro area.

Tuesday will be hot, but Wednesday will be even hotter. The heat index could rise to 107 degrees in the Twin Cities metro Wednesday.

"Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," the NWS warns.

"Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors."

Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 101. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 70. North wind around 5 mph becoming southeast after midnight.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 107. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming southwest in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north after midnight. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 8am. Sunny, with a high near 87. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light in the evening.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.
