MN Weather: 2 Inches Of Snow Falls Friday Before Arctic Air Arrives

More than 2 inches of snow fell in parts of the Twin Cities metro area on Friday morning. Bitter cold air will arrive Friday night.

TWIN CITIES, MN — A round of snow arrived overnight in the Twin Cities metro area Friday morning. Bitter cold air will arrive Friday night and stay for a while.

Here's the amount of snow that fell between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday:

  • 1.3 inches — Chanhassen
  • 2.2 inches — Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport
  • 0.5 inches — Eau Claire, WI

"A long duration cold air outbreak will move in this weekend and last through most of next week. Please dress in layers and cover exposed skin," the National Weather Service said.

Blustery, with a southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west northwest 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3. Blustery, with a west northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 9. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -6. Wind chill values as low as -19. North northwest wind around 10 mph.

Sunday: Partly sunny and cold, with a high near 4. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
