MN Weather: Here's When To Avoid The Roads This Weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather alert for much of central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area.

TWIN CITIES, MN — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather alert for much of central Minnesota, including the metro counties of Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, and Dakota.

Friday night will see a few slick spots on roadways, with a dusting of snow possible. A more intense storm is set for Saturday night.

"Light snow is possible across central Minnesota late Saturday into Sunday," the National Weather Service said. "Strong northwest winds in excess of 40 mph possible behind this system."

The roads will likely be slick again Saturday night into Sunday morning when there is a 40 percent chance of snow.

Things will get rough again Sunday night, when there is a 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before midnight. It will also be blustery, with a northwest wind with gusts as high as 30 mph.

There is a chance that Tuesday could bring plowable snow to the Twin Cities, but it's still too early to tell, reports Minnesota Public Radio.

Here's the full NWS forecast for the Twin Cities metro area:

Friday: Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 43. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning.
Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 27. West northwest wind around 10 mph.
Saturday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 35. West northwest wind around 5 mph becoming south southeast in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 29. East southeast wind 5 to 15 mph.
Sunday: A chance of snow before 8am, then a chance of rain and snow between 8am and 5pm, then a chance of snow after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 15 by 5pm. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 8. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 22. Southeast wind around 5 mph.
Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. East southeast wind around 5 mph becoming west northwest after midnight.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 26. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. South wind around 10 mph.
