MN Weather: More Typical Fall Weather Returns, Plus Chance For Rain

Much of the metro is experiencing an extreme drought. Some much-needed rain could fall late Thursday night.

TWIN CITIES, MN — Following the heatwave, more typical fall weather will return to the Twin Cities metro area starting Friday.

Some much-needed rain could fall late Thursday night. Much of the Twin Cities is currently experiencing an "extreme drought," according to the U.S. drought monitor.

"Rain will linger in areas south and east of the Metro on Friday before moving east Saturday morning," the National Weather Service said.

"A few flakes of snow cannot be ruled out on the back end of the system Saturday morning."

Thursday: Cloudy, with a high near 69. South wind 10 to 15 mph.

Thursday Night: Rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 3am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 3am and 4am, then a chance of rain after 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 41. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: A 30 percent chance of rain, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 43. North wind around 10 mph.

Friday Night: A 50 percent chance of rain, mainly after 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. North wind around 10 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of rain before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 48. North wind around 10 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 44. South southwest wind around 10 mph.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 54. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
