MN Weather: Severe Weather Possible Thursday

Here's the weather to expect this week in the Twin Cities metro area.

TWIN CITIES, MN —The Twin Cities could see showers and thunderstorms Thursday before a dry and cool weekend.

"Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and evening," the National Weather Service said.

"Some storms could be severe and produce large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps a few tornadoes, especially across southeast Minnesota and western Wisconsin."

Thursday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between midnight and 4am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 55. South southeast wind around 15 mph becoming west northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7am. Partly sunny, with a high near 67. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. North northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. North northwest wind around 10 mph.

Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 42. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest after midnight.

Monday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
