MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police officers intentionally destroyed official case evidence at the department's Second Precinct headquarters during the summer of 2020, according to a new report.

On the night of May 28, 2020, Mayor Jacob Frey ordered Minneapolis police to abandon the Third Precinct building as vandals swarmed it and eventually burned it down.

In response, police destroyed key documents at the city's Second Precinct building in case it might also become overrun, the Star Tribune reports. Officers worried about evidence ending up in the wrong hands, according to the newspaper.
