New York Columnist Insults Minnesota After Cousins Snubs Jets

"Cousins chose the Mall of America over Madison Avenue. Enough said," writes one New York Post columnist.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Kirk Cousins signed with the Minnesota Vikings over the New York Jets last week, and that decision has one New York Post columnist hot under the collar. Brian Costello can't imagine why someone would choose a humble state in the Midwest over "the greatest city in the world."

"Are you kidding?" rants Costello. "Choosing a place where fine cuisine is a Juicy Lucy (don’t ask) and high-end shopping is going to Target?

Wow. Really? What did a Juicy Lucy ever do to you, Brian, besides taste delicious? And going after our beloved Target, one of America's most successful retailers, why?

But wait, there's more:

"Remember, Robert Zimmerman left Minnesota to become Bob Dylan in Greenwich Village. Do you enjoy temperatures below zero all winter, Kirk? Minnesota has 10,000 lakes. You know what comes with 10,000 lakes? About 1,000,000 mosquitoes."

Is New York really taking credit for Bob Dylan, now? And making fun of Minnesota's weather — not exactly original. For what it's worth, Cousins (a native of the Midwest who played in the Big Ten) is well aware of the state's "Bold North" climate.

Cousins came to Minnesota the week before the Super Bowl for interviews on Radio Row. He used his time here to scout out the Vikings and the Twin Cities.

At the end of his visit, Cousins called his wife and told her "everything is checking the boxes here," for them and their infant son.

"As Rick [Spielman] said, this is a lifetime deal," Cousins said at a Thursday press conference. "That’s the goal. This is a three-year deal, but the expectation from both sides is we raise our kids here, and then if everything goes as planned, that I’d be here for a long, long time."

Apparently that rationale didn't sit well with the New York Post columnist.

Costello finished his screed with something of a threat:

Cousins will be in our area this fall when the Vikings face the Jets at MetLife Stadium. Maybe the night before Cousins can tour the area and see what he missed out on. Then Jets fans can roll out the welcome mat the next day the way only they can.
It won’t be “Minnesota Nice.”

The Jets went 5-11 last season, finishing with one of the worst records in the NFL. I think Vikings fans like their chances.
