Petition: Put Bike Lanes On 38th Street In Minneapolis
One bike advocate says adding bike lanes to 38th Street "would be a huge asset to the Longfellow community."
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Does 38th Street in Minneapolis need a bike lane? That's what one community member is proposing with a new online petition. Brigid Berger said on Change.org that adding bike lanes to the street "would be a huge asset to the Longfellow community."
Tell Patch: Is adding a bike lane to 38th Street a good idea? Let us know in the comments!
"Minneapolis takes pride in its bike-friendly reputation. Increasing the number of bike lanes in the city makes biking accessible to more people, especially those who are not comfortable mixing with car traffic, Berger wrote. "Bikes reduce pollution and congestion, making the community better for everybody. By calming traffic and making movements predictable, bike lanes increase safety for bicyclists, drivers and pedestrians."
Berger also said that by connecting the Light Rail's Blue Line with the Mississippi River, "it would create an essential corridor for bicyclists, as there is currently no east-west bike route between the Greenway and Minnehaha Falls."
