(PHOTOS) Southwest Footballers Stung By Hornets

One week after destroying Edison, Lakers shutout, 38-0, at Edina.

One short week ago, the football team was riding high after at Augsburg College.

On Friday night, the Lakers had the tables turned on them by means of a 38-0 blanking by host Edina.

The Hornets dominated the game from the start, taking the initial possession of the contest for a touchdown and never looking back.

Southwest committed several turnovers during the contest and didn't make it into the red zone—past the opponent's 20-yard line—until its final drive of the game. 

With running time on account of the Minnesota State High School League's "Mercy Rule," quarterback Maurice Alexander drove the Lakers to the 1-yard line with 11 seconds remaining.

However, Southwest's final goal-line play was all for naught, as time expired in the Lakers' lopsided defeat.

Southwest returns to City Conference play next Friday as the Lakers face off against Roosevelt High School in a 7 p.m. game at Gowans Field.
