Rosenbloom Keeps State Hopes Alive At Gymnastics Sectionals
Minneapolis Southwest senior leads on bars after individual preliminaries on Saturday; Lakers take fourth in team competition.
After just missing out on an all-around state berth, Minneapolis Southwest senior Maya Rosenbloom remains a good bet to qualify for the Class AA competition in at least one event after individual preliminary competition in Section 6AA on Saturday at Richfield High School.
While the Lakers finished fourth in the overall team competition with a total score of 126.875, Rosenbloom took fifth in the all-around with a 33.95.
The section's all-around qualifiers were determined along with the 6AA team champion on Saturday, while the top 16 preliminary finishers in the four events — vault, uneven bars, floor exercise, balance beam — move on to the individual finals on Wednesday at Hopkins High School, with the top four from there qualifying for state.

While Rosenbloom lost out on a trip to state in the all-around by one place, she stood in first place in the bars after Saturday with a score of 8.625; she also stood in sixth place in both the beam (8.65) and floor (8.625) and will compete on Wednesday in each.
The senior will not be alone in the finals as Southwest junior Maddie Sheehy and freshman Marie Sheehy also will contend for a ticket to state in the finals.
