How did you start: I've been singing and performing my entire life—my mom played a lot of Michael Jackson when I was growing up. In my freshman year, my theater teacher, Ms. Spring, kept pushing me to audition for the musical, but I thought the show sounded corny, so I kept resisting.

Then, one day I came into class and she said "You don't have to come to class today. Go down the hall and talk to Ms. Lee (the choir director)." When I got there, she had me sing "Happy Birthday" and read a few lines, and I got in under the wire. It was the best decision I made.
