Neighborhood Meeting to Discuss Safety Issues Between 42nd and 46th Street

Safety issues occurring between 42nd and 46th streets will be the subject of discussion at Wednesday's community meeting in Kingfield.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Parking and safety issues occurring between 42nd and 46th streets and nearby areas east of Nicollet Avenue in the Kingfield neighborhood will be the subject of discussion at a community traffic meeting Wednesday.

The Sept. 28 meeting will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The meeting will take place at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 4055 Nicollet Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55409. Members from Minneapolis public works and City Council Member Elizabeth Glidden will be present.

On July 28, residents initially gathered to discuss vehicle and pedestrian safety concerns with a focus on 1st Avenue between 42nd and 46th Street. Neighbors identified many areas of concern including safe pedestrian crossings at 42nd Street, heavy traffic near the business intersection of 43rd and Nicollet, delivery trucks on residential streets, and concerns with speeding and erratic traffic.

City staff agreed to review concerns and gather data from measurements of traffic speed and frequency.

The goal of Thursday's meeting is to review collected data and discuss next steps for the area.
