Minneapolis police worked to save a man from falling into the Mississippi River during Wednesday's heavy rainstorm that caused severe flooding throughout the metro. The rescue operation was captured on police body cameras.

First responders were dispatched to a water emergency call on Wednesday night. Two Minneapolis police officers and two Hennepin County paramedics were the first on scene, according to a news release.

While it was pouring rain, police found a man clinging to a rope and dangling over the rapidly racing Mississippi River, which threatened to carry the man away.

Police said the man is happy to be safe, but he feels embarrassed about the incident and does not want to be identified.

"We are thankful that no one was seriously hurt in this incident. I also hope it reminds people just how valuable our first responders are," Minneapolis Police Chief Harteau said in a statement.

“Every day, Minneapolis Police Officers are out in the community answering calls for help and putting themselves in harm’s way to save the lives of others. I continue to be proud of the men and women of the MPD.”
