Teachers love getting gifts from their students. But imagine how many doo-dads and thing-a-ma-bobs they get by the end of a 40 year career! Where do they keep it all??? Instead, consider giving naturally produced fertilizer to a family in need, in a teacher's name.
By now, most of us have heard of the Heifer Project. You buy a portion of a cow, or maybe a whole cow, and the recipient has food and nourishment by drinking the milk and they can boost their financial resources by selling the milk. But there's another use for the cow. Um, they can use the natural "fertilizer" produced by the cow on their crops. I never considered that benefit before! That just puts a smile on my face! Kindergartners will get a kick out of that gift! It's one of the few times it is appropriate to give the gift of "poop."
The Heifer Project doesn't just have cows. You can buy bunnies and honeybees and goats! Many other animals. Or if a product like clean water or helping a woman start her own business is more appealing, you can help that way too.
Of course consumables like food are wonderful gifts. Attach a Heifer Project card to a package of bean soup mix, a jar of honey, a bag of brownie mix, Minnesota wild rice or a bottle of jam from some of our other vendors, put it all in a cloth gift bag made locally from recycled fabric and wow! You've got a fabulous gift for the teacher who gives so much time and love to your child, helping to shape his or her future. And the gifts you purchase at the AGM do double duty that way -- they help to shape the future of a family you'll never know but who will benefit SO MUCH from your purchase.
