As a Philippine native and now a proud American citizen, this crisis really hit home. Last January my family & I flew to Puerto Princesa in Palawan to celebrate my Minnesota-born husband's birthday. We enjoyed the white sand beaches near the islands that were devastated by Typhoon Haiyan as you see in a map below. Fortunately for me, some of my family and relatives live in Manila, several hours flight north of the region that was demolished.
My native Philippine countrymen and women are just starting to recover from the devastation of Haiyan. This catastrophe of global relevance gives each one of us the opportunity to step up to the plate and give of our hearts with a moment of silence, heart-felt prayer or a donation of any level. Some opportunities for us to express our hearts are to donate non-perishable food, clothing, money or even water filtering systems. Whether you connect with Oxfam America, the American Red Cross or any of your preferred charitable organizations, I encourage you to reach out. As Minnesotans, we are very fortunate to have many local and national resources if and/or when we experience struggles big or small.
I appreciate you reading this "blurb" which allows me to connect with you to help in any form, our global community during their time of desperate need.
