Minnesota Connections Academy's Student Council Makes Important Contributions
Teacher from Lake Elmo to serve as advisor to students serving in a leadership role at the K-12 online public school.

Lake Elmo’s Meagen Zimick, a middle and high school English teacher at MTS Minnesota Connections Academy, will serve as an advisor to the K-12 online public school’s 2014-15 student council. With officers and student representatives in grades 6th-12th, the student council is responsible for hosting various social and service oriented activities, ensuring that school functions typically offered at a traditional brick-and-mortar school are available to the virtual students as well. This includes middle and high school dances, an Autumn Festival, Game Night, food drives and many other in-person events. The student council is also responsible for representing the voices of their class, such as concerns or ideas to improve the school experience.
“My favorite part of advising student council is my interaction with students as they take on a leadership role. They are so creative and enthusiastic about being an active contributor to their school,” says Zimick. More than 1,800 students across the state attend the tuition-free, online public school. School information sessions are ongoing. To learn more, visit www.connectionsacademy.com/minnesota-online-school.
