Minnesotans
treasure our 10,000 lakes. Our water supply has always appeared to be an
endless resource for us to use and enjoy. But will that continue? Recent
sinking water levels in the White Bear Lake region allude to trouble beneath
the surface.
"Running
on Empty? Managing Minnesota’s Water" is the name of
an upcoming forum being held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the Stillwater Library. The event
will feature a discussion of recently passed water legislation, water policy
framework and upcoming water management changes. Join State Rep. Peter Fischer,
Vice-chair of the House Environment and Natural Resources Policy Committee, and
Metropolitan Council Member Sandy Rummel, the Council’s Environmental Chair, to
gain information on aspects of our changing water situation. The discussion
will inform attendees about the challenges Minnesota faces in managing ground
and surface water and offers a venue for expressing their thoughts and getting
answers to their questions.
