St. Croix River Continues to Rise in Stillwater

The St. Croix River is up to 684.85 feet, according to a National Weather Service reading at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. The river is expected to crest this weekend at 686.1 feet.

At 686 feet, the Stillwater Lift Bridge may close due to safety issues. MnDOT has not yet said if the department intends to close the bridge or not.

Flood stage is 687 feet.

An automatic no-wake restriction is in effect on the St. Croix River.

The city of Stillwater is also taking some precautionary measures.

City crews have been working at the south end of Lowell Park around the sanitary sewer lift station as precautionary measures, just in case the river goes higher, Public Works Director Shawn Sanders said.

The city will be also installing fencing on the west side of Lowell Park from Nelson to Mulberry Street to keep people out of the park.

Currently, river waters have flooded a newly seeded area of Lowell Park. After the water recedes, Sanders told the Pioneer Press crews will check the area and may need to reseed it.

For reference, the river walk at  is inundated with water at 678 feet.

Marine Landing closed yesterday due to flooding.

A Facebook message reads:

"In case you haven't heard, the Landing went under water today....We will be closed until we can work without high boots."

An alert from the National Park Service reads:

“Recent rainfall has raised water levels dramatically. The St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers are flowing high, fast and cold. Take extra precautions while on the water. Additional rainfall over the next few days could raise the rivers even further.”

The St. Croix rose to be about 7-10 feet above normal in just a couple of days in Taylors Falls. Check out this Youtube video to see the flood waters coming over the top of the dam.

Currently, the Osceola Picnic Area is closed due to flooding. The restrooms in the picnic area, as well as the restrooms and public drinking water at Osceola Landing are also closed at this time.

The road to Raspberry Landing in Burnett County, Wis., washed out during recent heavy rains and the landing is currently inaccessible.
