Stillwater High Teacher Josiah Hill Running For MN House Seat
Hill promised to run a "positive, issues-based campaign" focused on affordable health care, environmental protection and public education.
STILLWATER, MN β Josiah Hill, an English teacher at Stillwater Area High School, has once again thrown his hat into state politics.
Hill launched his campaign in mid-February as he seeks the DFLβs nomination to run for Minnesotaβs 33B House District, which was recently redrawn by a special redistricting panel.
The new district includes Stillwater, Bayport, Oak Park Heights, May and Stillwater townships, Scandia, and parts of Forest Lake and Marine on St. Croix.

Hill said his campaign team βwill be working tirelessly to be a champion for the environment, our young people, our schools and for economic justice for all Minnesotans.β
Hill easily won the DFLβs nomination in 2020 for Minnesotaβs 39th Senate District, earning almost 87 percent of the vote to Brian Hile's 13.1 percent, according to Ballotpedia.

He lost to incumbent Republican State Sen. Karin Housley in the 2020 general election after earning 46.9 percent of the vote, while Housley earned 53 percent.
Hill will face off against Joe Widmer, a 40-year-old small business owner, in the Aug. 9 primary for the DFLβs nomination to run in Novemberβs general election.
Hill, who has been an educator for almost two decades, promised to run a βpositive, issues-based campaignβ focused on affordable health care for all, womenβs health, environmental protection, building a βthrivingβ economy, and equitable and high-quality public education.
βAs the father of three young daughters and a public school teacher, I know the vital role that our public education system plays in shaping the lives of all our children,β Hill wrote on his campaign website.

Hill said he also supports adding an equal rights amendment to Minnesotaβs Constitution to βensure that all are provided with equal protection under the law regardless of gender.β
βAt the core of my campaign is working to ensure all families have a pathway to achieving a high quality of life as members of strong communities,β Hill wrote on his website. βWhen families have wages and working conditions that allow them to care for their families, access to affordable health care, and quality public schools that serve all students, our communities flourish.β

Hill said he will work to βgain the trust and supportβ of Minnesotans as he campaigns for the 33B House District and will reach out to residents βto listen and learn in an effort to do what I was brought up to do β serve those around me.β
Hill moved to Stillwater as a young child and graduated from Stillwater Area High School, where he now teaches. He also teaches at The College of St. Scholastica - St. Paul, according to his campaign website.
Hill has served as union president for the St. Croix Education Association since 2010, a role he says has given him βbroad experiences in bringing different groups together and navigating through difficult situations for the common good.β
