Stillwater, MN – Three candidates are vying to represent the Republican Party in the race for U.S. House in the Fourth Congressional District of Minnesota.

The winner will face a strong challenger in eight-term Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL).

The Stillwater Gazette reported that the Republican Party’s endorsed candidate is Greg Ryan of Roseville.

Ryan was the only candidate that actually sought the Republican endorsement, according to Congressional District Chair Jim Carson.

Ryan faces challenges from Nikolay Nikolayevich Bey of Woodbury and Gene Rechtizigel of Newport.

Ballotpedia, a website that aims to provide objective information about politics, currently rates this race as safely Democratic.

McCollum recently made news when she joined House Democrats in a sit-in on the House floor to demand gun control legislation. She faces her own primary challenger in candidate Steve Carlson.

The primary elections will take place Aug. 9. The general election will take place on Nov. 8.
