Community Corner

Student Writing Contest

The Park Theater Company: St. Louis Park’s Community Theater in conjunction with Verona Publishing is sponsoring the 2013 St. Louis Park High School “Short Story Writing Contest.” The contest is open to all high school students and will result in twelve $100 awards as
well as a published collection of the winning student authors. The contest submissions will be judged by a panel of Hennepin County Librarians and those chosen for inclusion in the collection will be professionally reviewed and edited.

It is anticipated that 1,000 copies of the publication
will be initially produced, with 200 copies published in Spanish, and 200 copies distributed free of charge to students, the High School, and Hennepin County Libraries.

An extensive marketing and promotional campaign will
be included as part of this project. Verona Publishing, Inc. has alreadyestablished a marketing and distribution network of it publications, including an engaging and informative website – http://veronapublishing.com. This network includes Amazon Books and Baker & Taylor booksellers both major worldwide book distributors. Verona Publishing is also a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association and thus has access to the Associations’ methods of information and book distribution
including several regional and national book conferences.

In addition, The Park Theater Company and Verona will
coordinate local book signings and promotional activities in St. Louis Park, using such community events as the Children’s First Annual Ice Cream Social and
Parktacular – “Promote Your Business” – as platforms to promote the 2013 St. Louis Park High School “Short Story Writing Contest” and the book collection of student-authored stories. Student authors will be invited to participate in these events as well as to provide suggestions for additional marketing and promotional activities.

This Project and its successful outcomes will enhance the already well-established reputation of St. Louis Park Schools and their “striving for excellence” as one
of the nation’s “best.” The City of St. Louis Park will benefit from the project by adding an additional reason for people to discover that it is a great place to live, play, and “learn.” Community support of this opportunity for youthful creativity and maintaining St. Louis Park’s reputation of “learning excellence” is essential to its success.
