All Invited to 9/11 Remembrance
Aldersgate United Methodist Church is planning some special events for Sunday, Sept. 11. Learn more at www.aldersgatemn.com
I am excited about our church’s plans for this coming Sunday, Sept. 11. Though it seems almost sacrilegious to be excited about a day set aside to remember the 10th anniversary of something so horrendous, I think my excitement stems from the fact that our remembrance of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, won’t just end there, but will remind us of the hope we have in God that even in the most difficult of times, we are not alone.
In the worship service, we will hear a handbell piece that was written in response to the loss of the World Trade Center and the devastation wrought by terrorists that day. It begins with four opening chords that represent the four planes that crashed on 9/11. We will also hear a song sung by Mark Daire, who was in the Marine Corps, serving at the Pentagon on 9/11. Had the plane slid just a few more feet that day, Mark would not have lived. Mark will be singing “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)?” by Alan Jackson, a song that Jackson performed for the military members of the Pentagon in the Central Courtyard of the Pentagon
following the devastation of 9/11.
Following worship we will have an opportunity to write thank you notes to current military personnel then enjoy a free chicken dinner! Starting at 12:30, we have ice cream sundaes, face painting, an inflatable bounce house and the Karaoke machine all outside on the lawn.

All of us remember where we were “when the world stopped turning.” It is my hope that none of us have to remember that day alone. Please consider this your invitation to come with people from all over St. Louis Park, to remember and gain hope.
