BSM Boys Advance to State Soccer Tourney

The Red Knights defeated Waconia 6-0 Tuesday night in the section finals.

Senior midfielder Carter Eckerline scored three goals to lead the boys soccer team past Waconia 6-0 Tuesday night at home and into the state tournament.

"I was just going hard to the ball and it just popped my way," Eckerline said. "I was really excited."

This state tournament berth was a long time coming for a group of BSM seniors who have been knocking on the door for a few years.

"Everyone is excited," senior forward and captain Jake Horton said."It's great for our seniors on the team. Making it to the (section) finals last year and the semifinals the year before and losing those games was tough, but to come out and get this big victory is really refreshing."

Red Knights coach Dave Platt told his boys to enjoy the moment before they begin to prepare for the state round, and said they'll approach it the same as they have all season.

"We'll get them ready one game at a time," Platt said.

The 2011 boys soccer state tournament begins next Wednesday, Oct. 26.
