BSM Boys Head to State Title Match

The Red Knights topped SPA 1-0 on Monday, will play for their first state championship since 2006 on Thursday at 10 a.m.

The boys soccer team continued its stretch of dominance on Monday with a 1-0 win over St. Paul Academy and Summit School in the Class A semifinals.

The Red Knights used a game-winner by senior Jake Horton just 10 seconds into the second half at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The win puts BSM in the championship game on Thursday at 10 a.m. against Prairie Seeds Academy.

BSM (18-2-1) entered the state tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Red Knights are currently on a six-game winning streak in which they’ve outscored their opponents by a 24-1 margin.

On Monday, it was more of the same. BSM outshot SPA by a 14-8 margin, and goalkeeper Alex Leiter led the way defensively by pitching the shutout.

According to the Minnesota State High School League website, the Red Knights are making their 11th state tournament appearance. Should they win the title on Thursday, it would be their fifth in school history—their last coming in 2006.

The Red Knights have not played Prairie Seeds Academy this year. PSA (19-0-2) is the top-seeded team in this year's state tournament and is coming off a 2-1 overtime win over Rochester Lourdes in Monday's semifinal.
