BSM Star Breaks Hamline Elite Meet Record

Red Knights senior Trevor Yedoni set the mark in the high jump at nearly 7 feet.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s boys track and field senior Trevor Yedoni stole the show briefly on Friday at the Hamline Elite meet, earning two first place finishes in the span of five minutes on the far side of Klas Field.

Yedoni claimed his second straight long jump title at Hamline’s prestigious annual meet, but it was his record-setting performance in the high jump that kept his audience silently captivated. Yedoni set a meet record with a 6-foot, 11-inch jump after already defeating Roseville’s DeAntre Smith in the 6-foot-9 finals.

“It’s a great feeling—it gives me the jitters,” Yedoni said. “I just try to push it out and just go make a jump.”

The University of Minnesota recruit flirted with 7 feet in his final attempt of the day, and he nearly made it. His shoe nipped the bar in his closest attempt after the rest of his body had cleared.

“His goal is 7-1.25 (feet) to take the state record,” said Julie Yedoni, Trevor’s mother. “It’s fun, but after that it’s a matter of reaching his goal.”
