BSM Tops Cooper in Football Opener

The Red Knights started their season with a high scoring victory over the Hawks, 48-34, on Thursday evening.

The football team opened up its 2011 season on Thursday with a wild, 48-34 victory over host Robbinsdale Cooper on.

The Red Knights (1-0, 1-0 North Suburban Conference) opened up the game with a 20-6 lead after the first quarter, but Cooper scored twice in the second quarter to cut the lead to 27-20 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Red Knights took over. BSM scored 14 points and led 41-34 heading into the fourth, and despite the Hawks (0-1, 0-1 NSC) outscoring BSM 14-7 in the fourth, the Red Knights held on for the victory.

BSM will open up its home schedule next Friday against perennial North Suburban Conference power Totino-Grace. The Eagles opened up the season with a 28-0 loss at home to Minnetonka—the team’s first regular season home defeat since 2005. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
