First Major Snowfall of Season Hits St. Louis Park

Roads throughout the Twin Cities were in bad shape Saturday due to slick and slippery conditions.

The first major snowfall of the season hit St. Louis Park and the rest of the Twin Cities on Saturday, snarling roads and causing a number of crashes.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that from noon to 8:30 p.m., there were 261 crashes in the metro area, 28 of which resulted in injuries. Of those, 126 drivers spun out or slid off the roadway.

Across the state, there were 442 crashes during that same time period. One of the accidents was fatal, and 48 involved injuries. In all, 282 vehicles spun out or slid off the road. Two crashes involved squad cars, though there were no injuries.

The National Weather Service reports that just under 2 inches of snow fell in St. Louis Park. (See complete, statewide snowfall totals here.)
