From the beginning of my campaign, I have expressed my hope for clear and consistent communication that reflects the best interests of Ward 3 and St. Louis Park. I have asked for some clarity in the fright reroute issue from those who represent us. I have unequivocally stated that the freight reroute is too high a price to pay for light rail. I have said that based on the facts and common sense, St. Louis Park clearly wins the debate.
I have also expressed my frustration that politics seems to trump common sense in public process. Unfortunately, that was the case when Governor Dayton stopped what was a great resolution to be voted on by the Met Council. In doing so, he also asked for a review of freight reroute options. All without even so much as including St. Louis Park in the conversation.
Since then, St. Louis Park leaders have met with the Governor. But, the question still remains, what will happen with freight? There is only one solution – the resolution nearly unanimously passed by the Corridor Management Committee – collocating freight and eliminating any and all reroute alternatives. This is a common sense solution that will allow the most significant regional project – light rail – to be a success for our City and our neighbors.
