Patch Picks: Outdoor Fun This Fall

Don't let the chill in the air deter you from doing fun things outside.

Fall is toying with us right now. A light frost covered our gardens no more than two weeks ago and now it's slated to be 70 degrees and sunny this weekend. Mother Nature is bound to be moody this time of year, but let her be. We look at it as an opportunity to seize the nice days we still have. Before fall freezes our outdoor recreation plans, Patch has got some cool ideas for what you can do outside of the inside:

Hit The Pumpkin Patch (no relation to St. Louis Park Patch): Nothing says fall like a big ol' pumpkin sitting on the step. And heading out to the pumpkin farm and picking it yourself is quite the autumn activity, as well. While there may not be a pumpkin patch right in St. Louis Park, hit the edge of the metro and you'll have a hey-day. Try the Dimler Pumpkin Patch in Watertown or the Pine Tree Apple Orchard in White Bear Lake. Well worth the short drive.

Hit The Links: Let's face it, hitting golf balls into a screen on an electronic course just isn't as satisfying. Don't forget that the Meadowbrook Golf Course is right on the edge of St. Louis Park and Hopkins, and there is still plenty of tee time left before it shuts down for the season. Fooooooore!

Let's Ride: Hit if you need a quick fix or repair. Then you're ready. Take Excelsior or Minnetonka Boulevard down to Lake Calhoun and meet up with the Greenway. Regardless of the direction you decide to go, the colors of the leaves and the cool breeze are bound to look and feel great. Until winter...

Root For The Home Team: It's the peak time of year for outdoor high school soccer and football games, and you can check our calendar for when they have home games. Regardless of whether you have allegiance to or , putting on the appropriately-colored hooded sweatshirt, sitting your back side on those cold bleachers and sipping a hot chocolate is always a good time on a fall evening.

Hangin' At Home: It's never a good feeling to look out the kitchen window and see all of the snow piled up on your stacked patio furniture. Well, those days are a couple months away. Wheel that grill out of the garage, bust out the lawn chairs and enjoy a nice fall evening in the comfort of your own yard. If you want to get into the season's spirit, we guarantee the has any number of tasty fall beers and ciders to ring in the month of October.
