Sports Roundup: Orioles, Red Knights Run in Conference Title Meet

Also, St. Louis Park and BSM girls tennis players competed individually in sectionals.

Athletes from and competed on the trail and on the court in both the conference championship meet and the sectional individual meet as the fall sports season inched closer to its conclusion.

Orioles Cross-Country Competes for NSC Crowns

The Park cross-country teams competed in the North Suburban Conference championship meet in St. Francis on Tuesday, with the boys finishing third and the girls claiming eighth.

Dominic Reed led the Orioles boys with a time of 17 minutes, 10 seconds over 5,000 meters, good for fifth place; he was followed by Andrew Jewell (17:24.9) in 11th, Elliot Slade (17:37.9) in 19th, Sam Dawson (17:51.9) in 24th and Nate Rumpza (18:05.1) in 33rd.

Grace Williams paced the Park girls with a 13th-place finish of 16:23.4 in the 4,000-meter run, with Marcie James (16:38.7) taking 19th, Jenna Behnken (18:10.3) 44th, Sophia Temkin (18:57.8) 55th and Allisa Newman (19:52.0) 58th.

Red Knights Cross-Country Finishes Fourth, Sixth

The BSM boys and girls cross-country teams finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the North Suburban championship meet.

Sam Conley led the Red Knights boys with a 17:28.7 finish, good for 14th, followed by Andy Renier (17:32.5) in 16th, Teddy Brown (17:35.8) in 18th, Jay Biwer (17:57.5) in 26th and Matthew Racchini (18:00.4) in 30th.

Nicole Sauer's ninth-place time of 16:09.5 topped the BSM girls, with Maggie Conry (16:39.2) in 20th, Becca Halpin (17:23.8) in 28th, Amanda Kautzer (17:42.6) in 33rd and Frannie Peck (18:00.6) in 40th.

Section 6AA Girls Tennis Individual Tournament

Selected members of the Park and BSM girls tennis teams competed in the Section 6AA individual tournament on Monday and Tuesday.

The Red Knights tandem of Paige and Taylor McLeod placed fourth, going 3-2 in the tournament, while the duo of Kelly Dwyer and Julia Weber won two matches before succumbing in the quarterfinals. Singles players Morgan Grahek and Katie Witkowski both won opening round matches before falling in the Round 2.

Park's Natalie Lorentz won two rounds before losing in the quarterfinals, with Jackie Tan-Wohlers winning her first match then losing in the second round. Orioles duos Nina Schroeder/Hannah Sieff and Hallie Mogelson/Rebecca Robbins were both defeated in their respective openers.
