SLP Baseball Wins Sunday, Keeps State Hopes Alive

The Park amateur baseball team defeated the Bloomington Bandits in Class A play, will face Minnetonka on Tuesday.

The St. Louis Park amateur baseball team stayed alive in the Class A state tournament on Sunday, defeating the Bloomington Bandits 5-1 at Haddox Field in Bloomington.

The victory sets up a match-up against the Minnetonka Millers on Tuesday at Dunning Field. First pitch is set for 8:30 p.m. in Bloomington.

St. Louis Park Park (32-10) entered the state tournament on Friday and , 6-1. Their next game was Saturday against the Stockmen’s Irish, which they lost 5-4, moving St. Louis Park to the loser’s bracket.

But with the win against Bloomington in the double-elimination tournament, St. Louis Park stayed alive and still has an opportunity to win the state championship. Park must win six straight games to win state, with the state championship beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21.

St. Louis Park has been to the state tournament 17 times since 1990, placing third once, runner-up five times and winning the Class A title in 2002 and 2008.
