St. Louis Park Council To Revisit Pledge Of Allegiance Decision
Council members voted earlier this week to drop the recital of the Pledge from meetings, but public feedback has them reconsidering.
ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — After a unanimous vote to drop the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance from St. Louis Park City Council meetings, council members may be reconsidering the decision, according to a report. A city spokesperson told KARE-TV the council will talk about the decision at a session on July 8.
Jacque Smith, communications and marketing manager for the City of St. Louis Park, said after hearing a number of public comments, the council plans to revisit the topic at a 6:30 p.m. study session.
The St. Louis Park City Council originally made the decision to no longer say the Pledge of Allegiance before meetings citing a desire to accommodate the city's increasingly diverse population.

"We all love our country dearly, and we demonstrate that by our service as elected officials all the time," said Council Member Anne Mavity. "I want to make sure that we are welcoming to everyone in our community, and so I just felt that was an unnecessary component to include every single week in our work."
