Officer Fatally Shoots Armed Woman on I-394

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. near the St. Louis Park-Minnetonka border.

A Golden Valley police officer shot and killed an armed woman on I-394 near the St. Louis Park-Minnetonka border Thursday afternoon, shutting down traffic on the highway.

The police officer pulled over the woman—identified by multiple sources as 58-year-old Katherine Marie Gordon of California—at around 1 p.m. near Hopkins Crossroad. She had a handgun, and the officer subsequently shot her dead, according to the Golden Valley city website.

The officer was not injured. Per standard procedure, the officer will be placed on temporary administrative leave. Further details of the incident have not been released.

Westbound I-394 between Highway 169 and Hopkins Crossroad was completely shut off after the incident and eastbound traffic was initially narrowed down to one lane. Both sides of the highway are flowing freely at this time, and squad cars have cleared from the area.

St. Louis Park resident Sidney Myers, who was driving on a frontage road in the area, said he heard three, quick gunshots from his car.

"Just 'bang, bang, bang' in a row," he said. "(But) I didn't see anything."
