The Ups and Downs of High School Hoops

It was a wild and emotional week for Benilde-St. Margaret's basketball, something players, coaches and fans could all certainly attest to.

Eight days ago, the girls team with a 45-37 win over Orono in the section finals. Three days later, the boys , putting them in the section finals as well.

On Wednesday, the girls continued their winning ways, in the first round of the state playoffs. But the run a day later, as DeLaSalle ended the Red Knights' push to repeat as state Class 3A champs. Later on Thursday, the boys squad was in the section finals, marking a disappointing end to the season.

OK, catch your breath for a second.

After the girls finish their season with the state third place game on Saturday, the madness will be over — at least until the spring sports season kicks off in a matter of weeks.

Bantams Fall in Quarterfinals

A by the St. Louis Park Bantam A boys hockey team into the state tournament will not end with a title, as the Orioles fell to Elk River earlier on Friday, 3-1.

The 13- and 14-year-olds will still have a shot at a consolation championship as they continue play tomorrow in Virginia, Minn. Patch reader — and team parent — John Passolt will have a full story and photos after the weekend.
