Big Woods PTO to Host Family Art Night in St. Michael

The theme at the elementary school this year is "In the Woods."

Big Woods Elementary School students will be thinking about the woods Friday night.

The school's third annual Family Art Night's theme this year is "In the Woods." More than 130 families will take a large paper "tile" that features a woodland scene.

"Each family works together to paint the tile in whatever way their imaginations lead them," said Kirsten Weigle, President of the Big Woods Parent-Teacher Organization. "The purpose of the evening is to give families an opportunity to enjoy a free, low-key evening of creating art together."

The event, hosted by the Big Woods PTO and art teacher Kelly Dahl, results in colorful paintings displayed over ceiling tiles in the hallways and common areas of Big Woods.

"The paintings brighten the school and strengthen the home-school connection by incorporating the talents of siblings and parents," Weigle said.

Family Art Night is open to all Big Woods families who preregister. Registration is full — families are already preregistered, Weigle added.

Previous years' themes include "Up, Up and Away" and "Under the Sea."
