40-LOVE!
Come experience an exciting four-day celebration of incredible tennis, delicious food, and vibrant community at the 40th Annual Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic July 31-August 3, 2025, at Life Time White Bear Lake in White Bear Lake, Minn. This time-honored tradition - hosted by Pine Tree Apple Classic Fund, a Minnesota 501(c)(3) entity - once again benefits targeted pediatric oncology research and rehabilitation efforts at Children's Minnesota and over 600 hospitals across 66 countries.
A Legacy of Impact
The Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic was founded in 1986 by Ron and Mary Ann Peterson in hopes of raising funds for the medical professionals at Children’s Minnesota to conduct important research initiatives while still performing the crucial daily needs of treating children with cancer, including the Petersons’ 12-year-old daughter Julieann.
During the past 39 years, this grassroots community event has raised over $8 million for the cause, including over $500,000 in 2024!
Tournament Highlights
The Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic features 200 of the best mixed doubles players of all ages from Minnesota, the Upper Midwest and around the country in four divisions: Open, Masters (35+), Grand Masters (50+), and six Juniors draws (Green Ball through young adults). Many of the adult players are current or former college athletes, while the juniors are the next generation of tennis stars, coming together for the cause as each player is highly encouraged to fundraise with many raising thousands of dollars. Other tournament highlights and notes include:
FREE Admission for everyone; although a donation is always appreciated!
First serve is Thursday, July 31, at 3 p.m., while matches Friday & Saturday start at 8 a.m., and the finals on Sunday, August 3, at 10 a.m.
The tournament opens Thursday with Happy Hour and Food Tent specials.
The Junior tournament is played at Life Time Bloomington South with the finals played at Life Time White Bear Lake on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
The tournament is run by over 200 volunteers from the community and local high school/college tennis programs in the area.
The tournament partners with USTA Northern in operating the Volunteer Give Back program in which high school and college students volunteer to earn money for their respective teams. For every hour volunteered, that student receives $10 from an anonymous donor, another $10 as part of a matching gift from the USTA Northern and another $10 which supports the cause. This is the fourth year of the program which has raised over $35,000 for these programs and the cause.
The players account for 75% of all funds raised. In 2024, over $300,000 was raised by the players including $40,000 by the junior players.
During the 2024 tournament, we sold 186 apple rollovers, 174 6-packs of apple donuts, 100 apple cider licks, 286 brats, 138 hot dogs, 223 burgers, 482 beers and 90 signature drinks.
In December 2024, Pine Tree Apple Classic Fund presented a check for $460,000 to Children’s Minnesota!
