Merrill Arts Center Seeks Groovy Gear for a Far-Out Christmas Production
Disco divas, funky friends, and vintage treasure hunters invited to help the show boogie back to the 1970s
WOODBURY, Minn. — Can you dig it? Merrill Arts Center is preparing The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, directed by John H. Potter, for a far-out, multigenerational run during the first two weeks of December. Set in the groovy 1970s, the production invites audiences to turn back the clock—preferably to a time when bell-bottoms were wide, televisions were furniture, and disco ruled the dance floor.
Tickets are available at MerrillArtsCenter.org. In the meantime, the community can help bring the show’s polyester-powered world to life by lending or donating vintage costumes, accessories, furniture, and décor.
Fabulously Seventies Fashion Wanted
The show’s costume designer is hunting for all things fabulously seventies. Community members with bell-bottom treasures hiding in an attic, closet, or suspiciously stylish storage bin are encouraged to lend or donate:
·Go-go boots
·Coats, scarves, hats, and backpacks
·Lunch boxes and other accessories
·Dresses, shirts, and pants
·Funky accessories of every kind
·Anything else that screams “Stayin’ Alive!”
Totally Tubular Set Pieces Needed
To transform the stage into a totally tubular slice of the 1970s, Merrill Arts Center is also seeking the following scenic treasures:
·A vintage 1970s television
·A single bed frame
·A side table
·A dining room table
·A hutch or sideboard
·Any groovy décor, furniture, or household items from the era
If a forgotten gem is gathering dust in the basement, now is its chance to boogie back into the spotlight.
How to Help
Donations and loans will help bring this funky, heartwarming Christmas adventure to life. Community members can also help by spreading the word to fellow disco kings, queens, and anyone whose basement still looks like 1977. Thanks for keeping the good vibes rolling!
Drop-off or pickup coordination September - October 31st, 2026: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MAC Studios, 380 Rivertown Drive, Suite 200 in Woodbury. Please email programs@merrillartscenter.org in advance, so staff members are on hand—and not out shopping for Tang and Emeraude.
