Woodbury Home to East Metro's Only Handicapped Accessible Playground

Officials believe the playground will serve as a place for children of all ages and abilities to foster friendships.

Woodbury, MN – Woodbury is now home to the east metro’s first completely handicapped accessible, inclusive playground where children with and without disabilities can play together side by side.

The 16,000-square-foot, all-inclusive playground known as Madison's Place offers sun-shade covered swings, sensory play equipment and ramps for wheelchair access, according to a news release.

Woodbury officials believe Madison's Place will serve as a regional gathering place for children of all ages and abilities to foster friendships, experience the excitement of climbing on a playground and spend time outdoors.

The playground was built in honor of 2-year-old Madison Claire, who passed away in 2004 due to complications from spinal muscular atrophy.

Claire's parents started the Madison Claire Foundation as a way to help other families struggling with the disease.
