• DeSoto Sheriff's Office Collects Christmas Shoebox Gifts (desotocountynews.com) — Residents can drop off Operation Christmas Child donations at the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Hernando all October, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Suggested items include small toys, school supplies, hygiene products and clothing, which deputies will pack into shoebox gifts for children overseas. Families can also check Samaritan’s Purse guidelines if they prefer packing full boxes themselves. 
• 700 DeSoto Fifth Graders Attend Conservation Field Day (desotocountynews.com) — Fifth graders from Hernando Intermediate joined more than 700 DeSoto County students for a hands-on Conservation Field Day at the DeSoto County Agri-Education Center. Kids rotated through stations on bats, water conservation, trees and litter, led by groups like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Master Gardeners. Organizers hope early lessons on saving water, planting natives and reducing trash will stick at home.
