Chief Administrative Officer highlights Jackson's challenges, successes at community forum (wapt.com) — Jackson's chief administrative officer says the city is closing a $25 million budget gap without raising taxes while still reopening Thalia Mara Hall, investing in the planetarium, and tackling blight and bridges. Speaking at Refill Jackson, he highlighted museum district growth and hinted at applying similar creativity to the Jackson Zoo and Children's Museum as he prepares to leave his post. 
2. Ron Yarbrough honors wife with gift to the University of Mississippi's cancer care (northsidesun.com) — Cancer patients in Jackson could soon have better access to advanced treatment close to home, thanks to a $1 million gift from Jackson attorney Ron Yarbrough to the University of Mississippi Medical Center's Cancer Center and Research Institute. Inspired by his late wife's difficult trips from Jackson to Houston for care, the donation supports UMMC's push toward National Cancer Institute designation and expanded services for Mississippi families.
3. Mississippi Powerball player takes home $50,000 (wjtv.com) — If you buy lottery tickets in Jackson, you'll be interested to know a recent Powerball Double Play ticket sold at Fast Lane on State Street hit for $50,000. Another player in Pascagoula just matched the same numbers for the same prize, and the next Powerball jackpot for September 5 stands at an estimated $173 million.

Two former top Jackson State University administrators settle sex discrimination lawsuits (wjtv.com) — Jackson residents connected to Jackson State University may want to know that two former top administrators have quietly settled separate sex discrimination lawsuits tied to the school's recent leadership turmoil. While settlement details remain sealed, the cases involved allegations over how the JSU presidency and a key enrollment management role were filled, and one agreement bars a longtime employee from seeking future work at JSU or other state universities.
